3 Jun (NucNet): The president of the Swiss Confederation has reiterated
his support for the continued use of nuclear energy as part of the
country's electricity generating mix.
Pascal Couchepin told the 50th annual meeting of the Swiss Nuclear Forum on 29 May 2008 that discussions about new nuclear power plants in the country should start soon because of the long lead time before construction.
His comments followed a speech in April 2008 in which he said the retention and possible development of nuclear energy was necessary.
