Areva Announces Major Nuclear Fuel Orders For US Plants

6 Feb (NucNet): France’s Areva group has won orders to supply nuclear fuel to four US utilities, the company said yesterday.
Areva said the contracts – with Constellation Energy, the Tennessee
Valley Authority (TVA), PPL Corporation and AmerGen Energy Company –
had a combined market value of more than 200 million euro (about 293
million US dollars).
The contracts cover the supply of:
Ten reload batches of fuel to Constellation Energy for Calvert Cliffs-1 and -2;
Two reload batches of blended low-enriched uranium (BLEU)* for TVA’s
Browns Ferry-1, with fuel delivery starting in 2010 to 2012;
Six reload batches (under a contract extension) for PPL Corporation’s
Susquehanna-1 and -2, with fuel deliveries starting in 2011 to 2016;
Five reload batches (under a contract extension) to AmerGen Energy
Company for the continued supply of fuel for Three Mile Island-1. The
five reload batches will be supplied from 2009 to 2017 with options
until 2021.
* The BLEU project is a partnership between Areva, TVA, the US
Department of Energy and Nuclear Fuel Services of Erwin, Tennessee.
Areva currently provides fuel to Browns Ferry-2 and -3 under the BLEU
project.
