Ethical In her article, "We need to add an ethical dimension to energy policy", (Focus, 13 July), Morag Mylne claims that nuclear power is not a renewable technology. But it nearly is.
The fuel removed from reactors is (unfortunately) described as "used".
However, in fact only 3 per cent is actually "used", with 1 per cent
having turned into plutonium. The remainder is available for the
manufacture of new fuel, although so far the low price of mined uranium
has not made this economic.
I call a technology that re-uses "used fuel"--'renewable'.
