Letter to Scotland on Sunday PDF Print E-mail
Written by Alan Shaw
Sunday, 23 July 2006
I note that Keith Allott ( 23rd July) is head of climate change at WWF-UK . Their web site is a world wide list of potential  environmental problems to be dealt with but gives no indication of any detailed knowledge of nuclear power whatsoever.  Prejudices are not enough. Nowhere mentioned are the complex technical and economic criteria to be satisfied in choosing the correct generation mix for a highly electrified country such as the UK .

I suggest WWF stick to subjects they know something about. It is is a field for experienced British chartered engineers. These, not the world wide man-in-the-street, are the ones who should be consulted, particularly in  a country which for fifty years has obtained without  fatal accident a substantial proportion of its base load load electricity by  nuclear power.
