A wireless tracking system that can provide a real-time headcount of underground workers is to be used at the Swedish nuclear waste management company SKB International’s Aspo Hard Rock Laboratory.
The system is called Watchersystem and was developed by Austria-based Identec Solutions. Apart from providing a real-time head count, the system also has a “lone worker" feature which automatically triggers alarms when a worker exceeds set parameters in a defined area.
This information will enable “a significantly enhanced emergency response” in the event of a potentially dangerous situation or evacuation, Identec said.
