Your claim that more than a quarter of Scotland's electricity came from renewable sources last year ("Scotland on track to hit tough targets on renewable energy", 24 December) is specious.
Only 20.9 per cent of the electricity generated in Scotland came from renewables, only just over half of that (11.4 per cent) from wind, wave, solar power and thermal renewables (the remainder was from hydro-power).
The picture you present is only possible by comparing the amount generated from renewables with the gross consumption in Scotland. But that overlooks the fact that nearly a quarter of our electricity is exported to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. No-one can tell where electricity ends up once it enters the distribution network.
