NOT everyone will agree with Fordyce Maxwell's love of wind farms (Insight, 10 January) and many will wonder at his naivety in not asking where the power comes from when there's little wind, or too much of it (at such times, the turbines do not generate).
Apart from despoiling the landscape, and soon the seascape, wind farms are uneconomic without the huge subsidies consumers unwillingly give them. Because of the need for conventional backup, they save no carbon emissions and their erratic input causes disruption to the grid. There are also safety and noise concerns. If Mr Maxwell wants steady, secure and cheap electricity he should be campaigning for more nuclear power.
