Nor is it inefficient (the energy in one tonne of uranium fuel is equivalent to that in up to 40m tonnes of coal) or outmoded. Scotland's nuclear stations are not closed down 'as often as wind turbines'. Betweeen 2004 and 2009, both units at Torness were off-line simultaneously under 2% of the time; wind farms are off-line for about 70% per cent of the time.
