Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) has disputed claims concerning the continuation of work at the construction site of the country’s Olkiluoto-3 (OL-3) reactor unit.
France’s Areva group, which together with Siemens is the turnkey supplier of OL-3, claimed yesterday that although the reactor dome would be installed “very shortly”, TVO had not yet implemented “specific measures” for speeding up work at the site.
“Areva has sent proposals to TVO in order to get back to methods of execution that are in line with usual practices for major projects. We will only commence the final phases of the works when TVO has agreed upon the proposals that have been made or issued contract amendments that provide for the requested modifications,” Areva said.
However, TVO said yesterday: “Contrary to what Areva implied in its press release yesterday, they have not informed TVO about discontinuing work or presented any conditions for the continuation of work on the OL-3 construction site. According to the fixed-price turnkey contract, the Areva-Siemens consortium is responsible for the construction and commissioning of the plant unit and for the project schedule.”
TVO president and chief executive officer Jarmo Tanhua added: “The schedule for the construction site is challenging and Areva's public speculation about stopping the works does not make it any easier to keep to it.”
