Scientists Put Nuclear On Energy And Climate Agenda For G8 Summit

Proposals on energy and the climate, including the need for further international cooperation on nuclear energy, has been submitted by scientists to all of the governments taking part in next month’s summit in Italy of the group of eight (G8) leading industrialised nations.
The document urges G8 leaders (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the UK and the US) and leaders of the five main countries with emerging economies (Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa) that will attend, to endorse safe, secure nuclear power generation; the safe disposal of nuclear waste and further international cooperation in reducing the risks of nuclear proliferation.
