Vattenfall Chief Joins UN Group On Climate Change

The head of the Sweden-based utility Vattenfall is to join a new United Nations (UN) advisory group on enrgy and climate change. Vattenfall said today that its chief executive officer, Lars Josefsson, had accepted an invitation from UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon to join the group. Mr Ban said the high-level group will "bring together business leaders, experts and energy practitioners to help me make timely and appropriate policy contributions to the climate and energy challenges facing the world today". Vattenfall is Europe’s fifth largest generator of electricity and the largest producer of heat, produced by a mix primarily comprising nuclear and hydro-power. In January 2009 Vattenfall began a restructuring of the group to drive its strategy for generating clean electricity and to manage heavy investment programmes, including the formation of a third pan-European business group for wind, nuclear and engineering.
